As we announced last month, the first seven episodes of our Psychotherapy Notes podcast are now online. They’re interesting and short, by design. Much as I love to ramble on for hours (seriously, my students are all rolling their eyes and nodding in agreement right now), these episodes are short enough that you can listen to an entire episode during a 10 minute break between client sessions. Make 2018 the year you finally have your paperwork in order
As we put a bow on the end of 2017 and look ahead to the new year, many of us make resolutions, or plans, or promises. We make commitments for the year ahead in hopes of living our personal and professional lives that much closer to our ideals. One resolution I make each year is to update my office paperwork.
My informed consent always needs a few updates to reflect my changing practice. As I get older, I see each day a greater importance to having a Professional Will. And with technology changing so quickly around us, this year I knew I needed to add policies around social media as well.
California to change Counselor and MFT intern title to “associate” on January 1, 2018
Under a bill signed into law last week by Governor Jerry Brown, counselors (PCCs) and marriage and family therapists (MFTs) in California who have completed their graduate degrees but are not yet licensed will see their title change from “Intern” to “Associate” on January 1, 2018. We don’t do a lot of interviews here on the blog. But sometimes, getting additional perspectives is important. So for our new podcast on major current issues in the world of psychotherapy and counseling, we split the episodes. Some of them are me talking about a current issue, giving background, trends, and opinions. The rest involve key players, talking in their own words.
We’ve dropped the first seven episodes of the Psychotherapy Notes Podcast on iTunes. All episodes are under 10 minutes, so you can listen to a full episode in between sessions.
Finding gratitude as a prelicensed therapist
If you’re working your way down the long road to licensure, the holidays can offer some welcome relief. It’s a rough process, getting licensed. It’s certainly longer than it needs to be, and it helps if you’re independently wealthy to begin with. Sometimes staying optimistic is a challenge.
But going into the holidays with family and friends, we thought it would be a good time to remember all the good that comes with this work. And there is a lot!
