I’ve put the finishing touches on a booklet to update Basics of California Law for LMFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs. The booklet addresses new laws impacting master’s level therapists in the state for 2016.
There weren’t enough changes for this year to warrant a whole new edition of the book, but there are a number of new laws worth knowing if you practice in California. The update includes new rules surrounding:

Odds ratios give researchers eye-catching (and media-catching) results. They also rely on readers’ confusion about what they mean. They’re becoming fashionable in research and in media precisely because they are so eye-catching, but don’t be fooled by a weak finding dressed up to look like a strong one. California debuts its new exams for MFT licensure this week, reorganizing its exam process into an MFT Law and Ethics Exam and an MFT Clinical Exam.
Back in 2008, the American Counseling Association not only advised against using a sliding fee scale, it went so far as to call sliding fee scales “discriminatory.”
Therapy podcasts can be great ways to learn new information in the field when you’re in the car or otherwise semi-occupied. A lot of new ones have been springing up lately, which is good! The more content we have to choose from, the better.
